ONWARD

Privacy Policy

Effective October 27, 2026

This policy explains what information Onward Exchange LLC ("Onward," "we") collects when you use giveonward.org, Onward pages embedded on other websites, and Onward emails; what we show publicly; who we share it with; and the choices you have.

The short version: Onward is built to show giving and volunteering publicly, so much of what you add to a public page is meant to be seen. We don't sell your information or show ads, and you control what's public and which emails you get.

1. What We Collect

  • Account details: your email address and password (stored encrypted by our sign-in provider), or your Google account's name and email if you sign in with Google.
  • Profiles and pages: what you add, such as your name, photo, city, bio, workplace, trade, causes you care about, and for organizations their name, logo, website, EIN and mission.
  • Giving and volunteering: gifts, pledges, sponsorships, volunteer hours, event results, and any receipts you upload for review.
  • Events and sign-ups: RSVPs and volunteer sign-ups, including the name, email, phone, party size and notes you give. You don't need an account to RSVP; we still keep what you enter.
  • Posts and messages: posts, comments, tags, and messages you send through Onward.
  • Invitations: names and emails that members enter to invite people to Onward or to an event.
  • Technical information: basic logs our hosting providers keep (such as IP address, browser and pages requested) to run and protect the site. Onward stores your sign-in session in your browser. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.

2. What's Public

When a page is public, anyone can see what's on it, including people who aren't signed in and visitors to nonprofits' websites where Onward is embedded. This can include:

  • your profile, posts and the organizations you're connected to;
  • confirmed gifts and volunteer hours, and whether amounts show, depending on your page's and the nonprofit's settings;
  • supporters, sponsors and team members shown on an organization's page;
  • who's going to an event, if the host shows it. Guests appear as first name and last initial, and anyone can keep their own name off the list.

You can make your own profile private, hide amounts, and remove posts. Emails, phone numbers and notes from RSVPs and sign-ups are never public; only the host sees them.

3. How We Use It

  • to run Onward: show pages, record and confirm gifts and hours, run events, deliver messages and invitations;
  • to send emails about your account and activity (see Email settings to choose which);
  • to review new organizations, including checking nonprofits against public IRS records, and to prevent fraud, spam and misuse;
  • to understand how Onward is used and improve it;
  • to follow the law and enforce our Terms of Use.

4. Who We Share It With

  • The nonprofits and businesses you interact with. When you RSVP, sign up to volunteer, say you're interested, sponsor, log a gift or send a message, the organization (and the people who manage its page) receives the details you share, so it can follow up. Their use of it is governed by their own policies.
  • Service providers who run Onward for us, such as our database and sign-in host, our email delivery provider and our website host. They may use the information only to provide their services to Onward.
  • For legal reasons, when required by law, or to protect the safety, rights or property of Onward, our members or the public.
  • If Onward's business changes hands, in a merger, sale or similar transaction, subject to this policy.

We don't sell your personal information or share it for advertising.

5. Gifts a Nonprofit Brings In

Nonprofits can bring gifts made on their own donate buttons into Onward, by uploading a spreadsheet or connecting an automatic feed. Donor information a nonprofit sends to Onward belongs to that nonprofit and is used on its behalf: to update its totals and to let Onward members claim their own gifts. Onward never sells it, never shows it publicly, and never emails those donors itself.

If a gift's email matches your Onward account, we let you know in Onward and ask whether to show it on your profile. Nothing shows until you say yes, and you can say no.

6. Your Choices

  • Edit or hide your profile, posts and records from your pages at any time.
  • Choose which emails you get, or stop all Onward emails, from Email settings or the link at the bottom of any email. Guests can stop event emails from the invitation.
  • Ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account by emailing hello@giveonward.org. Some records may stay where the law requires it, or where they're part of an organization's own records (for example, a gift a nonprofit confirmed and keeps in its own records).

7. How Long We Keep It, and Security

We keep information while your account is open and as long as needed for the purposes above. We use reasonable safeguards, including encryption in transit and access controls, but no system is perfectly secure.

8. Children

Onward accounts are for people 18 and older, and Onward isn't meant for children. We don't knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has joined or given us information, email us and we'll remove it.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. If the changes are significant, we'll let members know by email or on Onward before they take effect.
