Volunteer Management for Nonprofits: Onward vs. SignUp.com and VolunteerHub
SignUp.com and VolunteerHub are dedicated volunteer tools, with waivers, check-in and reporting on paid plans; Onward covers the basics (shifts, sign-ups, reminders, hours) for free, and puts volunteers on the same page as your events, donors and business sponsors.

When SignUp.com or VolunteerHub is the better pick: you run large volunteer programs that need waivers, check-in kiosks, text reminders or detailed hour reports.
When Onward is the better pick: a small or mid-size nonprofit that wants volunteering to sit next to its events and donors, and wants volunteers thanked publicly for their hours.
The best part: you can use both. Running a large program with waivers and check-in kiosks? Keep that in SignUp.com or VolunteerHub, and use Onward as your public front door: volunteers, events, donors and sponsors on one page, with every volunteer's hours celebrated.
